Journey To China

Travel with us as we journey to China to meet and bring home Margaret Virginia Mei (Maggie) and Mary Henley Yi (Mary Henley). We will document our travel via this blog site...we hope you enjoy keeping up with the Seven Sims!

Mark 9:36 - He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, "Whoever welcomes one of these little ones in my name, welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me."

Prayers, Blessings and a Gentle Reminder

Meritt and I were blessed this evening by sweet time of prayer during a gathering of many friends and family at the home of Rick and Jody McNatt.  What an incredibly humbling experience to have our dear friends and family pray for our trip, the girls (Maggie and Mary Henley), our family at home (Marshall, Macey, Matt & Charlotte), and that God will be honored throughout our journey.

It really hit us this evening when it was mentioned several times during our prayer time, that we too (each one of us) were once orphans...just like Mary Henley and Maggie.  That is, until our Heavenly Father graciously adopted us into his family...and thankfully, despite our desires otherwise, he continues to pursue us, just like a loving parent, each day.

Meritt and I pray, with thanksgiving, that he is allowing us to be part of his plan to pursue Maggie and Mary Henley.

Our journey begins tomorrow morning!

Ready to go!?!

Our journey begins on New Years Day at 9:40am as we board a flight to China that will take about 16 hours.  Combine this with a 12 hour time change, and we are scheduled to arrive in Shanghai sometime after Noon on Monday, January 2nd!  We have a very short (six hour) layover in Shanghai before we board a plane for a short one hour flight to Hefei.

Mary Henley lives in Hefei, and if all goes as planned, we will meet her on Wednesday, January 4th!

We should be in Hefei for a few days before jumping on a plane for another short flight to Xi'an (shee han)...Maggie is in Xi'an, and we hope to meet her on January 8th or so.  We will be in Xi'an, home to the famous terra-cotta army, for about four days before yet again boarding a plane for a little longer flight to Guangzhou.

Guangzhou is where we will navigate all of the consulate, visa, health, and legal appointments that are necessary for us to exit China with the girls.  Our final consulate appointment is scheduled for January 17th.  We will pick up our paperwork on January 18th, travel that evening via train to Hong Kong, and depart Hong Kong on January 19th.

Our flight from Hong Kong is scheduled to leave around 10am on the morning of January 19th, and after a brief layover in Detroit (I have no idea why we fly direct to Detroit), we are scheduled to arrive in Atlanta around 5:30pm on January 19th.

Mary Henley and Maggie look forward to seeing you soon!
